What is in Almond Cream Cheese Bars?
- Toasted Almonds: These almonds are available toasted in the grocery store, or you can buy sliced almonds and toast them yourself! Almonds are SO good for you. Almonds have vitamin E protein, fiber, unsaturated fat and calcium. When compared by the ounce, almonds have the highest amount of calcium of all nuts.
- Cream Cheese: It's been around since the 1800's and was produced mostly in Philadelphia. You can use store bought like I did or homemade. I love the versatility, and that you can use it in sweet or savory recipes. This recipe uses only half the package, but you can store it in the fridge opened for up to 2 weeks before it spoils.
- Powdered Sugar: Also known as confectioners' sugar or icing sugar. It is finely ground by milling, and is used for frostings or dusted onto food to add sweetness or decoration. You can use store bought or also make it yourself!
- Almond Extract: This is defintely my favorite of all extracts. It's made of alcohol, water and bitter almond oil. Pure almond extract has a strong, sweet flavor that goes great with cherry, vanilla, chocolate, coffee flavors. I love adding it to my sugar cookies! You can try making it homemade or use store bought.
